Shower Waterproofing

Almost fell into the schluter hole!

Hello, my name is Benjamin & I almost stepped in SCH$#%’luter. Luckily I found Isaac’s videos before going full bore with Schluter products. Although everything has been purchased I have only applied the Kerdi membrane to the walls and the no access Kerdi drain into the floor with their un modified thin set. Now I am willing to abandon/return the shower tray and curbs since I would have to extend the curb with dry pack and slice & dice the curbs to fit the neo angle. Whatever I do moving forward I plan on coating the pan & drain with Hydro Ban. Should I cut the Kerdi drain out and replace it, can the current drain elevation (set up for the Kerdi thin tray) be saved/ used? Should I still use the Kerdi shower tray / or just start fresh with a dry pack Not adverse to ripping the drain out if covering that cloth fiber in the flange can’t be made 100% waterproof with additional membrane & Hydro Ban. I plan on returning the 4 remaking bags of their un modified thinset because I’m not sure if it is the best product for my large format tiles.

to get the full picture of this project, the wall tiles are 12” x 36” x 1/2” floor to ceiling (9’ height)

the shower floor will be 12” x 12” flat cut river rock on backing.

Somebody please guide me out of this rabbit hole. Btw, the 2x4’s are just so my wife could visualize the curb. We plan on the curb only being 2-3” high from the existing finished hardwood floor.

thanks for all of your advise & assistance.

I believe they have corrected the fleece delaminating from the flange and have moved to a different adhesive. I have had one sitting in a bucket of water for about a year and it is holding up fine.

You could also get a FLoFX traditional flange if you would like.
