Considerations for Micro Cement in a New Construction Shower?

Hey everyone,

I am planning on self performing the work for a new construction curb less shower in my home. My wife and I would like to use Micro Cement. I want to use the Micro Cement on the shower walls, and floors of the entire bathroom. Does anyone have experience with this type of install? Am I approaching it right?

Here are some details and my plans:

  • Wood subfloor

  • Shower pan; Planning on a dry pack shower pan with FloFX FlowFx drain. install tar paper and metal lath under deck mud for adherence to wood subfloor.

  • Walls; Cement board backer

Valid Concerns or No?

Hi all! Need some insight and opinions, please. I'll introduce myself as probably a contractors worst nightmare simply for the fact that I love to learn how things are done, so I spend a lot of time researching which leads to a lot of questions for him. That being said, I'm in the midst of a huge project that involves 2 baths and a basement under contract with a GC. These 2 baths have been completely gutted and floorplans revised to better fit our needs which included all new plumbing and electrical. We're finally to the point of putting everything back together and I'm afraid its gone sideways and heading to disaster. I am panicking and need to decide whether to ride it out or stop all work when everyone comes back after new years. I have no idea what kind of "system" the contractors want to call this nor…

He's been doing it wrong for 10 years. It's just sub par work. Do it fast, get it done. No concern for correct.

You definitely need a 3rd party. Call another tile contractor. Let him come over and get a few laughs in. If it's really a problem I'll give you my phone number. I'm not shy about telling people they do terrible work

Hairline cracks in Keraflex skim coat & Window Sill Waterproofing

Question 1: I did a dry pack mortar bed over my concrete floor and used a layer of thinset (MAPEI Keraflex Plus) over the top to fix some slope imperfections. While the slope is now as good as I'll ever get, I have noticed some hairline cracks in the cured thinset (I doubt I could even fit a piece of paper into them). Will this be a problem, or can I go ahead and continue with the liquid Hydro Ban?

Question 2: I sloped the cement board on my window sill using thinset, but I need to know the best way to waterproof the transition to the window frame (it will see plenty of water). The end state is a long composite sill tile on top. Is it okay to use Laticrete Hydro Ban Adhesive & Sealant where the cement board meets the window? I plan to apply it like…

Sorry for the late response. But yes to all your questions. You're going overboard and that's good. We use the sealant along the window frame. Adding extra waterproofing is always good. Just be careful of build up

Edited

I waterproof with liquid membrane and water stop angles in the shower recess. What do you think?

Looks solid. And going overboard like that ensures the ONLY reason they call you back is to do ANOTHER bath for them
