Window trim

I’m getting ready to install the sentinel board.

Question 1: Do I need to take the trim off the window? Or maybe dig out the dry wall and stick the sentinel inside the trim.

Question 2: Would you install the tile under the window’s wood trim? This would require me to remove the trim and replace it after tiling. Or do I just bring the tile up to the window trim, not under it.

Thanks,

Terry

To be frank, I always want to see wood trim removed from a shower. I always waterproof and tile around the window. Much better practice, as mostly everything gets wet in a shower. It's a good insurance policy and a much better look. But to answer your question, take a oscillating tool, or what we call a multi tool, and cut a straight line directly under your trim- so, your sentinel board butts up against the edge of the trim (where the drywall was) perfectly.

You might find that once you start working on it, the drywall will simply "fall" out of the space under the trim...and that's fine too. slide your sentinel board up in there if you can. If you want to dig it all outta there and slide your sentinel board up...extra credit. You may not be able to because of the 100 nails shot through the trim to hold it on. Tiling under the trim is not common or something I've seen done. If you're looking to be top G tile contractor...like the dude people pay extra for, take off the trim, take off the drywall, prep the framing behind it, put on your backer board...waterproof around the window and tile it. MUCH better finish look and much longer lasting.
