Shower Waterproofing

Any recommendations on approaches to sealing Steam showers?

My contractor is suggesting red guard on a steam shower.

It doesn't sound like the best option on the limited research that i have done.

Any suggestions i can pass on to a contractor that is not familiar with kurdy board and similar water sealing methods?
