Hydro Ban does not bond to sealant
I made a dumb mistake and used a bit of hot glue to hold my first ledger in place before fastening. Of course, it ended up out of level, so I removed it to start over. The glue pulled off some of the Hydro Ban layer and a tiny bit of Go Board. Not a big deal for the three or four small spots. However, there were a couple of spots over Go Board sealant where larger intact strips of Hydro Ban peeled off.
I thinsetted the small bits (thinset bonds just fine to the sealant), and I patched the larger spots with membrane. I don't know if I should hydroban over any of those. I think not for the patches, as they're already Go Board + Sealant + Membrane, but maybe for the small spots (1 square inch at most). Thoughts?
My bigger concern is with potential weak spots at the (2" to 3" wide) seams. The tile would be going over a layer that is not bonded to the wall. I'm not so worried about the small fasteners spots (my tile is 10"x16" porcelain). I need advice on how to proceed.
You're fine. Most people are only using the sealant in their showers. The hydro ban and banding were all overkill to help you sleep
