Removal of floor only
I've removed the floor on my shower down to the concrete slab, and I've removed the two lowest rows of tile. (There are still big patches of hot mop.) Going in, the only problem I had was the mildew in the caulk joints. As it turns out that was due to two flaws in the installation: no slope, and weep holes blocked with copious tar. Everything was saturated. I'm still trying to leave the walls intact. What I can't figure is how to marry a new shower pan and curb to the existing waterproofing. Seems to me that a sealed system is not possible, but a water in, water out system might. My question: is this feasible?
Details: With the two exceptions, every part of the shower looks like it was done to spec in 1986. (Walls consist of concrete backer board, tar paper, metal lath, mortar bed, then adhesive and tile. Floor had an appropriate hot mop pan liner. I see no significant water damage.

...or now I really DO want a new shower. š It makes me a little nervous, but I think I could pull it off. I appreciate your help in my decision making.
