Shower pan build question
This is my second shower build, but my first dry pack. This remodel consists of removing a prefab enclosure, squaring the studs, and replacing a section of the 3/4" plywood floor. I plan to use a Flo FX drain with surface membrane. I have a few question that would help clear up some confusion for me.
1) I enjoyed the video on how to build an easy dry pack shower pan, but the screed marks were drawn on the wall board which was clearly to the bottom of the mud bed. I have since read many comments about not using wall board on the sides of the pan due to wicking issues. Is this in all circumstances or just with cement boards?
2) Is 3/4" ply sturdy enough to build the pan on or do I need to add a layer of hardibacker or similar? If so, would that take the place of the plastic and steel mesh?
