Considerations for Micro Cement in a New Construction Shower?
Hey everyone,
I am planning on self performing the work for a new construction curb less shower in my home. My wife and I would like to use Micro Cement. I want to use the Micro Cement on the shower walls, and floors of the entire bathroom. Does anyone have experience with this type of install? Am I approaching it right?
Here are some details and my plans:
Wood subfloor
Shower pan; Planning on a dry pack shower pan with FloFX FlowFx drain. install tar paper and metal lath under deck mud for adherence to wood subfloor.
Walls; Cement board backer
Waterproofing; FloFx waterproofing membrane that will extend out of the shower area 12"
Main bathroom floor; FloFx uncoupling membrane with micro cement on top.
Micro Cement Brand: SureCrete MicroTek with a waterproof sealer on top.
Questions;
Are there concerns with the micro cement cracking over the uncoupling membrane?
Some people recommend embedding fiberglass mesh in the micro cement to add strength. Is this necessary and what mesh to use?
Thanks in advance!

We have looked into it, and it requires a lot of maintenence and is very labor intensive (6 or 7 coats) from priming to sealing. I can't recommend anything on it. I've seen problems from it being in wet areas and not completely dried out after each use.
