I use go board for shower walls all the time. I DO use the sealant on the seams. Cleanly and sparingly.
I use Nova fiber (Amazon) and liquid hydroban to cover the seams, corners and washer heads. Cut the fabric into little squares
Do NOT use redgard. Ever.
Liquid hydroban preferably
Aqua defense if you can't find it
