Solid surface "Quartz" shower pan?

I'm strictly a DYIer but with a lot of persistance and multiple skills in the home improvement area I am currently in the process of formulating my plan to tear out and rebuild our MB shower. We were originally going to have a continuous surface, "Quartz" shower installed by a local company but the price scared us off. We regrouped and decided to do it ourselves in tile. One thing I especially liked about the Quartz shower was the solid surface pan. It's one piece of either granite or an engineered material called Quartz, similar to Corian. The company that was going to do the job said they would sell us just the custom pan, ready for installation for $1,200. A bit pricey but I love the idea of a solid stone pan. I hate cleaning grout lines, especially in the floor. Has anyone else had any experinece with custom cut, solid surface Quartz or granite pans? Is this someting for the DYI guy?
