Floor Layout for Laundry Room

I'm doing a simple layout for my laundry room, but I'm wondering what the experts would say about my layout.

Note: All of this in consideration of a hallway outside of the doorway with 15x30" tile running with the length of the hallway.

In both images, the purple line represents all exposed floor that will receive tile. Everything outside of the purple line will be trimmed from the design. The black box is the laundry cabinetry/utility sink and will be covered. The notch at the bottom represents the doorway which is the thickness of the studs (2x3) on the bottom plate. There will be a Schluter Jolly trim dividing the hallway from this room directly under the door.

The first image shows 12x24 tiles running with the length of the room with the tile at the door opening centered on the doorway. I counted this as the most important aesthetic regarding the layout. Correct me if I'm wrong. As for the depth of the room and where the tiles start, the horizontal green line is the center point between the wall with the door and the square where the water heater will be.

In the 2nd image, I have the tile turned 90 degrees. Just as in the first, I centered a grout line to the width of the door and the green line is the center between the wall and the water heater. This one creates a small sliver that's a little over 1" in width running along the water heater, but honestly I could just thicken the water heater pedestal and cover a small gap with quarter round, so it's not a big deal.

I realize the green line isn't exactly centered.

Which layout do you like the best, and/or would you make any changes to either of them?

Hey Jon- I think I like option two only because the hallway will have the tiles running with the length. I think the 1st option would be best if it were only the laundry but since the hall is connected, I really like hallways running with the tile length. Great job on the layouts, having the hallway centered is key.
