Starting Final Bathroom Remodel

First - Isaac, the updates to the web site are awesome. Been a while since I finished the hall bathroom so first time back in a while.

I've done the teardown of the jetted bathtub and shower area. Moved the wall between the closet and shower by 5" and eliminated the double wall where the valve set goes to make the shower a bit roomier.

My Tile-redi pan with the compression drain fitting is on order. I'm in the process of getting the plumbing updated. Need to move that freestanding vent from the old wall in the shower space into the new wall and replace the old drain fitting with a standing pipe. Similar for the bathtub alcove, I need to move that vent closer to the wall and setup the new drain. Also need to reroute the water lines as well.

I have a couple questions/verifications I wanted to discuss since this time I'm handling all the work not just the waterproofing and tile install.

  • For the shower valve rough in I centered it on the internal measurements of the shower pan excluding the curb.

  • The shower has a hand-held, wall, and rain shower head. I centered the rain head on the drain, slightly further back from center between the valve wall and the side curb but I figured not centering on the drain would look off.

  • I'm adding 2 niches into the two stud spaces on the open side of the shower.

  • For the tub alcove I'm moving that vent closer to the wall but not into the wall since there's a joist under the wall. So I was thinking of building a 16" deep bench over the vent so I don't need to make a raised platform for the tub.

  • For the freestanding tub's filler I was wondering the best location for it. Initially before I knew where the vent for the tub drain was, the location I was planning to put the filler was between the tub and the window. Now with the bench on the left side covering the vent piping I'm trying to decide where's the new best location? Back left corner?

Everything's looking good so far. I'm excited to see it. I would put that tub filler between the tub and the window. it's pretty easy to reach over. And wherever your feet are.
