Tub flange to durock joint?

Hey there Tile Gang,

I've been making progress on the shower & tub project.

QUESTION--- how should I handle the tub flange, durock joint? Even though I tried to get the tub flange depth perfectly even with the durock, there are areas that are up to 1/8" off. This does not show up well in the photos. Also, the right durock wall has a varying thickness of 1/8". Of course I should tape + thinset the joint but should I also use thinset to float (make flat) the full flange + durock area in order to get the best starting point for the tile?

I will be waterproofing over this (of course).

Thanks for any help.

I think I've seen Isaac say he would set the backer board right above the flange, rather than overlap over it, which it looks like you did -- except the flange pulls away from the wall in some places, is that right?
