Where my dry pack mud bed meets the existing concrete, especially where I replaced the concrete for the new drain line circled in the photo, is rough. Watching your youtube videos I see that the waterproofing membrane should go 12" outside of the shower. Should this mud bed to concrete transition and other rough spots be smoothed out with thinset first then allowed to dry before moving to the waterproofing membrane step? Should I fill those small indentions in the drypack with thinset also? For any rough areas outside the shower area I've seen some videos of remodelers using something called feather finish? (I'm installing the cement board wall panels now)
