Used the plastic guides and ring to form my mortar bed as you can see.

I planned for a 3/8" tile on the shower floor and set the drain height accordingly.

Now we've found a nicer looking tile but it's 5mm porcelain. If I use it the drain will need to be lowered about 3/16".

This drain barrel just screws in to adjust height as is typical for a drain flange. This guide system uses a plastic ring that encircles the drain barrel and gets filled with deck mud after the drain barrel is at desired height.

The drain barrel is actually somewhat movable (jiggles). I can think of no particular reason that I cant just chip out a bit of the mud inside the ring and screw the barrel down the required 1/8" or so.

I would have to restore the mud height within the ring afterward. I thought of maybe just topping it off with a bit of thinset.

Does this seem OK? I really cant see any particular problem...
