Sufficient Bracing for Shower Door?
Hey all! We are at the point of almost being ready to measure for glass for a frameless pivot door and knee wall glass. I have a concern that has just come to mind regarding the bracing for the side where the hinges will be mounted. This is a renovation so where the wall for this shower ended up landing in the existing wall didnt have a stud. Instead, they added a 2x4 turned sideways and scabbed it in by attaching it to the existing sill and then attaching it to the back of the existing sheetrock at the top and placed hardie over it. The preexisting vent pipe was kept but adding the new T piece and furnco to it made it too thick to be concealed within the backer boards Im assuming, so they simply placed mesh tape over it and added a dab of waterproofing. The wall is tiled in 24"x48" tiles laid 2 over 2. Is this 2x4 bracing attached to the sheetrock sufficient to support a pivoting glass shower door? I have a laundry list of concerns Im bringing to the GC this week and need to know if I need to add this one to it. I went to 2 glass places today but both were closed for the holidays. Thank you!
