Ditra over plank subfloor from 40's?

Whats up everybody

Isaac Thanks for building this place and for all the love!

I got a kitchen subfloor made of rock hard 7/8th redwood planks from the 40's in berkeley ca. 16 oc joists. 3.25" planks packed tight, no gaps, no creeks no movement at all what so ever.

Ditra manual says it must be installed "over any even and structurally sound OSB or plywood subfloor with 16" (406 mm) o.c. joist spacing" but it doesn't mandate a thickness. I have a hard time believing a subfloor of 1/2" osb will be more sturdy than what I got goin on here. I was planning to lay tile over this original subfloor but wanted to come here to double check with you all.

in the bathroom, the subfloor of planks has large gaps up to 1/2 which used to be buried under a solid inch of mortar and tile. I'm figuring I have to replace that with plywood.

I removed laminate in the kitchen and some ancient tar adhesive remains on the wood. the manual says it can be installed over laminate. I had a concern about the laminate tar ~but I don't think that should be a problem because the whole idea is decoupling anyway right?

the only bonus to taking out the planks would be if I can use 1/2 plywood subfloor, I might be able to make a more flat transition to the hardwood in the next rooms. The hardwood and subfloor appears to stand about

ps, any opinions on the redguard imitation product at home depot?

I'm a Noob redoing sisters house and stoked to try tile for my first time and send you some pix!

Thanks again!

No, you would need 3/4” ply over 16 OC joists
