Glass backsplash question. Wall uneven.

Finishing my Kitchen project, the backsplash is the last major piece. I had to reopen my drywall to put in a brace for my countertop install, the patch (along with a patched over outlet)

has added a wave to the wall. The question is should I...

1. use drywall compound to smooth out and level the wall?

2. use thinset as a leveler? (leveling the wall with thinset, letting it dry and then using thinset over it to attach tiles)

3. use 1/8 everbilt backerboard over the whole wall, then tile over?

4. use 1/4 hardie board over the whole wall then tile over?

I'm using large format glass tile (16 by 3) and I have been told it likes to crack more then porcelain with stress.

The wall behind the cooktop is close to excellent, the wall behind the sink has waves at the bottom.
