Shower Tile Layout...
I'm ready for wall tile and didn't think planning patterns/layouts would be so difficult. Here goes...
I prefer to go with one of the following patterns.
Tile Size = 23 11/16" x 11 3/4" (12x24) Intended to use a 1/16 grout line. I could use 1/8 as well.
Horizontal "stacked" pattern. (Inline grout lines) I'm trying to figure out if this is better visually for niche area, overall simplicity and less waste? i. The back wall, layout a Full center tile & for Left/Right sides, about a 17 7/8" with the waste on each side. Bottom row start with full height tiles. Top most row tile would be about 6-6 1/2" in height. ii. Left and Right Side walls, I can get a full tile out to the edge of the curb threshold/profile and a 10" piece into the corners. (See Photo) This will also allow the corner tile go right up to the inside edge of the niche. Kind of worked out that way. Would you go this route?
2. Running Bond (50% overlap), this may look more luxury? I don't know where to start on this layout. I'm defeated.
I only know I'd prefer the cut piece be a wrap around onto the side walls, if I went this layout. i. How to start measuring the rows and not have a tiny sliver out at the edges of the shower at the edge profile? ii. Is there more waste with this layout? iii. If I start with a full bottom tile, again it should be fine with a 6-6 1/2" top row, this wouldn't change over the stacked pattern layout.
iiii. Can I keep the edge profile flush with the curb sill or do I have to bring the tile out another 1"-2" past the sill? (this goes for both the stacked or running bond layout)
Any help or suggestions on either of these I would appreciate, specifically if you would choose the Running Bond over the Horizontal Stacked, I'm kind of lost on that one. However, I like either layout.
Note: The edge profile would sit ON TOP and not down the side of the sill (2nd photo). Also, WIX hosting does not play nice with simple markups and editing, so mind the gaps!

I agree with all of this
