Backer Board / Drywall Questions for Curbed Shower
What is everyones recommendation on the following:
- Which backer board thickness (1/4, 1/2, 5/8) should be used for shower ceiling? (Rest of the bathroom ceiling is 5/8" Drywall)
- Would drywall work just as well as backer board for tiling ceiling?
- What thickness backer board should be used for tiling shower walls?
- Best backer board material for tiling?

I would use 5/8" drywall with RSS sheet membrane over it. Kerdi or Laticrete sheet membrane would work too.
1/2" backer on the walls.
I like Perma Base or Durock for walls or RSS, Laticrete, or Go Board if you want foam.
