Is this ever a good idea - use existing mortar bed?
Hello, very experienced general DIYer, in NC, but new to tiling in wet areas. So forgive the basic question. We are replacing an old corner shower (don't know the era it was installed) with new plumbing, new tile, new curb, new doors, in the identical footprint. As we rip out the old shower, it appears there is a "sound" concrete mortar bed, with proper slope. Is there a scenario where it's okay to re-use this concrete mortar bed?
I put "sound" in quotes, because I don't know what I'd be looking for to determine that (again - no experience with this wet area work).
Not trying to cheap out, or take any shortcuts, just not sure what are the potential issues with re-using. Thanks for any thoughts on this from the experienced crowd!

Potential issues are the drain connection and how well the system is weeping. I recommend removing and replacing so you can get a new drain in there.
