Hardie board for kitchen backsplash
We recently just had 2cm cabinet to counter granite backsplash removed from our kitchen. Removal ate up some spots of the drywall pretty bad, requiring patches, replacing pieces, or filling with joint compound. I primed all the spots and did the drywall repairs in prep for tile. i plan to put in a 3x6” beveled subway tile as the backsplash. I’ve had 2 people tell me to not tile over the drywall and to install 1/4” Hardie board over the drywall into the studs and tile onto that. Mostly for structure and reducing cracks. everything online says this is not necessary but it’s hard not to go against 2 reputable GC’s who said the same. thoughts. If it's brittle from moisture, replace it before tile. Moisture resistant drywall is a far as I've gone in kitchens.
