using pre slope guides
I am planning to use the plastic preslope guides (as well as the guides for the mortar bed). ( I am going to shim them so that there will be a level line at the walls)
question:
given that the mortar bed mix is technically supposed to be a minimum of 1/2-3/4” thick, is this system at risk for structural failure?
these guides for the preslope taper down to 1/8” thickness where they meet the drain flange. So obviously that’s a very thin application of mortar near the drain.
Apparently these guides are being used widely and seem to be well rated generally.
Thoughts or experience on this point?
Thanks

Thanks for that. This was pretty much my thinking as well. I am doing the pvc liner. I will add lathe to the preslope bed. The plastic guide dividers, while making “orange sections” out of the preslope, may arguably actually act as support structure as well. I’m going to place them with construction adhesive rather than tape. I‘m also thinking of switching to something super adherent like cement leveler as I get to the thinest area around the drain.
This whole plan came out of:
1) My reluctance to “free hand” the slope this first time.
2) The fact of the drain pipe being too short to easily add a drain flange at the conventional height.
When I do the master bath (next) I may do things in the more established fashion.
