Sill/threshold for shower entryway
I found an engineered threshold/sill that I like and is reasonably priced. I can also get the product in 84" lengths so I can do the entryway with the same material, and probably without making any cuts. (thank you to MillaMonster for the suggestion). Of course, now I have a more questions:
(1) Can I use modified thinset for the install?
(2) Can anyone share tips/tricks (especially for the vertical pieces)?
(3) Can anyone recommend a good video for installation of the vertical pieces in the doorway? (Those puppies are heavy!)
(4) I like the look of the continuous surface on the left, and I had planned to use a Schluter at the transition to sheetrock, but I could use the threshold instead. Are there any practical issues/pros or cons I should to consider? Like, would door installation be easier one way vs the other? What would I use to hold it in place while the adhesive sets up? Are there "unk unks" you pros in Tile Coach Land can clue me into?
Modified thinset will work just fine. Honestly if you butter those things up they will stick to the wall vertically no problem. Would most likely stick to your ceiling!
You'll need to shim them for level or slope for drainage. Just like a tile.
I will say that some of the man-made thresholds at home Depot and Lowe's are very, very difficult to drill into. The glass guys will go through three or four drill bits to drill a hole and be very upset. I don't know exactly why and what it's made of.
It can be done, and looks just fine, but just throwing out that FYI
