Delta Shower Valve Depth

Good morning all. Per Delta's instructions below, I've set my WS22000 shower valve at a depth of 2 1/2" from the stringer to the face of the mudguard. I did a few tests with a trowel using a 1/2" notch and the estimated finished thickness of my tile came out to right about 1/2".

The instructions state 2 9/16" +/- 1/4" which would be 2 5/16" to 2 13/16". I tried to split the difference of the +/- 1/4" and decided to have it protrude a bit more in case my tile and thinset turns out to be more than 1/2" thick.

It's about 1 3/16" from the face of the stud to the mudguard.

Does this seem realistic? Is it more common to have it recessed?

Yes 1-3/16” should work. We usually aim for 1-1/8” off the face of the stud but there is some wiggle room.

We like to error on the side of it being more inset, because you can usually get extensions but if it’s sticking out too far there is nothing you can do but open up the wall and fix it.
