Insulation for exterior concrete wall options

I am in the prep phase of replacing my shower which has two exterior concrete walls. Here in Florida they usually use a product called Fi-Foil (like a paper bag and foil, radiant/vapor barrier) over 3/4" furring strips against exterior concrete walls. It has an R value of 5.5, but in winter it does nothing to help and is cold in the shower. I know we don't get a lot of cold days here in central Florida. I wanted to take this opportunity to add some insulation behind shower walls since I will be ripping out existing walls. The only option i have found is using 3/4" rigid foam insulation boards, unless I make the wood thicker behind the walls, but in turn will take space out of my shower. Looking for any recommendations. Thanks

The foil as you noted will keep heat out, but not the cold. You can either use rockwool or 3/4" rigid foam to get you about 3 R value. Not much but it would probably make a difference. If you use a 1/2" foam wallboard (like kerdi-board) on top of it, you will add about 2 more R value for a total of 5.
