DIY Shower Build Questions

Hello,

This is my first time posting as well as building a shower. I have been watching a ton of TileCoach's videos this summer as I am remodeling our primary shower and have learned a great deal!

We ripped out the shower/tub combo in our primary bathroom that was original to the house from 1978. Our house is on a post tension cement slab in Houston, TX. We hired a plumber to repipe our house as well as move the drain away from the wall and install new shower plumbing. Then we had another person come in a fill in the hole in the slab and frame out for a shower with a pony wall, then we have been DIY from there.

Our plan is to use the FloFX drain with a shower pan made from 209 deck mud (I cannot find the sakrete deck mud anywhere here), then hydro ban on top of that (I've watched all the videos multiple times). We installed Durock backerboard and then used thinset and the mesh tape over the seams and screws. We are planning on using hydro ban over the cement backboard as our waterproofing method (I used cement board and hydro ban in our other bathroom in the tub surround and it has been working great for over ten years).

My first question is how should I cover the curb? Unfortunately it is going to be made out of 2X4's as I didn't know any better at the time. I was thinking of using the cement board set with 254 Platinum and only using fasteners on the cement board on the outside of the curb, then hydro banning over that.

My next concern is I have a lot of outside corners with thinset and mesh tape and they did not come out too even. I will attach pictures of everything. Do I need to use a corner bead and if so, which one and how do I attach it? Or should I not worry about it?

Also, how perfect does the thinset need to be? Like drywall? I will post more pics.

Last, after I build the shower pan, should I use hyro ban tape around the bottom perimeter of the shower and inner and outer corners at the curb in addition to the hydro ban?

How bad is this?

Any feedback is much appreciated!!!

Thank you!!
