Tile layout problem on fireplace

Since this is my first post I wanted to say I've spent the last two years watching your videos Isaac (I've also watched many of Sal's) to learn as much as I can. Isaac, your videos are awesome and I really enjoy watching them. As such I joined your forums so I could ask questions and discuss stuff on many of the project I put on hold in 2020.

I'm trying to plan out the tiling of a new fireplace. When the contractor installed the 50" linear fireplace he needed to bring the fireplace out into the room where the original hearth was since it was too wide for the original chimney opening. So now my intention is to make it look like a large block of stone by using 24" x 48" tiles to cover it. Picture below to show the area to get tiled.

The issue is that the height of the entire fireplace is 53" which doesn't divide nicely into 24". The second picture shows the fireplace with one of the tiles for scale and as shown it almost covers the entire upper half at 24".

So the question is would it be cleaner to cut the tiles so they surround the fire window and make them equal in size and then rip the top row of tiles to cover the remaining? Is there another pattern that would work better? One of the layouts I was thinking of was to put the whole lengths in the middle and have all outer edges equal size (left, right) (top, bottom). That would make the cuts easier surrounding the fire window.

I figured this would be an interesting question since most videos are always floors or showers.

Thanks

Test layout on the floor. Having all tiles vertical is definitely the way to go.
