Deck Mud Question

I finished the mud bed and after 72 hours there is sand on top when I sweep it seems I can keep getting little bits of sand. Researching a suggestion was to put a thin coat of thinset on top to keep it intact. My question is since I'M covering with schluter kerdi membrane can I count that as my thinset or do I need to do a skim coat let it dry and then apply thinset and kerdi on top of that?

You’ll want to lock in those bits of sand with thinset before you do the membrane. Otherwise you will be getting bits of sand under the membrane and you can knick the surface of the membrane with your taping knife or trowel if there are loose bits of sand directly under it.

I agree with Larry, thinset screeding needs to be done prior to the final application of thinset.
