Curb Width - Tile Thickness
Is there a rule of thumb regarding tile and thinset thickness? The pre-fab curbs are pretty wide and I need to narrow one. For a small shower if I wanted a finished 3 1/2" curb width, would I just assume 1/2" on each side for tile & thinset thickness?
I just can't see using a 4 1/2" curb (RSS) and then adding another 1" or so total to the width after tiling to a 34" x 34" (approximately) small shower. That seems like a huge waste of space.
If my math is correct, would a 2 1/2" wide (before tiling) curb cause any rigidity issues since it will still be 4" high? I don't believe I can cut down the height of an RSS curb since it has a routered channel to mate with their shower pan.

thinset is usually only about 1/8"
