Starting Lineup

Where to start the wall tile layout?

I'm using a 12" x 24" tile. The box says you shouldn't put them in a "brick" pattern. That's where each successive row overlaps the row above and below by half. I'm not sure why that is but I didn't care for it anyway. They show a 1/3 overlap pattern as being preferable so I'm going with that. I'm beginning with the bottom row and will set the ones above later, after they have set up. As I got into cutting the bottom row I realized I didn't know where to start? I have heard that you should set the back wall first so that the tiles on the two outer walls hide the joint where the walls meet as you enter the shower? But do you start the pattern on an outer wall and work your way around? Do I cut the tiles for all three walls and then set the back wall first? You can probably tell by my confusion that I had a frustrating day. Things aren't as square as they could be. In general the walls are good and square but there are some places where the Kurdi cloth in the pan is causing a slight tilting out of the bottom row. I don't think it's a huge problem but it's just frustrating as hell. I might have to do a slightly tapered cut in the corners on the bottom row where the walls meet, to account for the account for it? Things should go better once I get past the first row. It's just getting started that has me flumoxed. If the outer edge of the tile, at the curb looks a little short, it's because I have allowed for the width of a

3" x 12" edge tile.

Looks fine to me but it was on the side of the tile box.
