Schluter edges and following drywall contours

Another question on the fireplace I'm putting tile onto.

First, for Schluter trim (I'm using Rondec) trying to figure out the best way to get a clean 3-dimension corner. I can see dealing with 2-dimensional frames you have some fudge space next to the wall/floor to make adjustments to create a clean corner. For 3-dimensional objects the dimension from side to side doesn't have as much ability to fudge a 1/8" to make a clean corner. So would the approach be to do the sides of the box first so you know the full thickness of the thinset and then do an exact piece for the front edge?

The other is dealing with a dip in the top where the contractor put the drywall compared to the Hardi-backer. I've included a picture of this edge. Would the preferred approach be to have the Schluter trim come to the drywall and then cut the tile around the drywall, or would you find a way to cut out the drywall for a straight edge to the wall?

I’d just pack in some thinset. Even if there a little bit of a void in the wall I wouldn’t worry about it as it’s a very small area and your doing large format tile
