This is my preliminary pattern for Versailles sets on this wall. The pattern is constrained a bit by the shelves (red) and window margins etc.
Because the tile edges are bevelled somewhat ("chipped") I was advised to keep the grout lines fairly small - like 1/8th inch in order that the surface groutline doesn't appear overly fat.
I had planned on 3/16th inch grout lines originally.
What I see coming my way is a daunting task to set these and preserve a 1/8th groutline throughout.
I did 8x24" tiles on the previous project and found myself wandering off my gridlines a bit. Didn't matter too much with the larger grout lines. Here however, even slight wandering is going to result in really tight spots with nearly absent grout lines.
Can this be done?
I am pretty meticulous but this may be a serious challenge....

I did a mockup with exact measures in CAD.
It became apparent that this would be quite challenging so Ive simplified with 8x8 and 8x16.
The same problem arises but simpler to manage and the pattern looks nice.
