Reasons why and how much?

Howdy all -

Scene: Tiled shower failure - PVC liner leak at curb corner junctions. Removed entire pan, rotted wood curb, and first course of 18x18" wall tile. Pan area is about 32"x60" (used to be a tub). 2nd floor, ply subfloor...

Plan is to perform a repair on the pan and I am contemplating one of two methods,

1. Float a pan with new drain and membrane over, tied into patched wallboard. Kerdi and Laticrete stuff most easily available. Don't really like the foam pans I've used in the past and floor tile is small mosaics.

2. Tile Redi pan with patched wallboard of some type.

My questions are regarding pros and cons for either method - why would one (layman or pro) choose one method over the other. If skilled I would guess either is just as fast, but one would increase cost/reduce revenue? Secondly what would be a rough estimate of cost difference between the two methods?

Hopefully that all makes sense and I understand there are probably a ton of nuances to these questions that might make the whole thing impossible to answer.

Thanks
