Tile levelers
I was all ready to start tiling the next day. Had picked up the delta tile levelers, thinset and curbs in the morning, applied my hydroban and prepped my layout. At the end of the day got in the truck to go home and happened to glance at the bag of leveling clips and noticed “from 1/8”-1/2”. The tile being installed is 5/8”! Called the supply house to see if they had the larger size clips. No luck. Called all the other suppliers in the area…same story. One supplier had the pearl system which should accommodate thick tiles and being out of options I went and grabbed them. To be safe that night I ordered the larger delta clips online and rushed shipping.
The pearl system is nice but can’t handle these tiles with a 1/2” comb behind them. I can snug them up but they will break off as soon as they start to pull the tiles into alignment. Can’t even get a 32nd out of them. So I have to make sure everything is perfectly flush before installing them and they’re really only there to hold the tile in place which kind of defeats the purpose. Thankfully the delta clips arrived yesterday so I can carry on on Monday.
I’m putting this here because it’s a simple oversight. The 1/8”-1/2” clips will cover 99% of the tile out there. So much so that I took for granted even needing to consider paying attention to it.
Thank you for the heads up. I am working on supplying my own brand of leveling system similar to the ones you are using. I didn't consider 5/8" tile thickness but now I will.
