Smooth shower finish
I am curious if anybody has expertise (or experience) in smooth shower finishes?
I'm on the fence about doing a merlex super shower finish (waterproof paper or board then chicken wire/float stucco then crack membrane then super shower finish coat) or just going with a 48x48 matte porcelain to mimic the look of a smooth wall without any questions about durability.
I love the idea of the high end smooth wall look but I've only ever done tile work in showers. I've done stucco patching on exterior but never large areas. I've done extensive drywall finishing too and am confident in my ability to make a wall look decent.

I would be afraid of cracking, especially in the changes of plane. I have a plaster guy I watch on YouTube (Kirk Giordano) and he said he stopped doing showers because of the cracking. He has a great channel by the way if you want to check out some of his work.
If you did it, I would recommend an solid acrylic pan, and plan on caulking the corners of the walls.
