Extremely Large Format Tile (59"x23")

We're DIYrs working on a bathroom remodel and new to this forum. Looking forward to learning here as a supplement to YouTube University. We've watched many of Isaac's videos along with other tile professionals.

The bathroom is very small (5'x7.5') with a 60" alcove tub. The tile we're using is by Porcelanosa and is 59" x 23" so it will span the entire back wall of the alcove with no vertical grout lines. We're looking forward to having no vertical grout lines. In addition, its rectified and we'll be using 1/16" grout lines. We plan to back butter the tile and will be using a 1/2" trowel. Its being installed on 1/2" Kerdi board.

Given that this is our first tile setting experience, we'll be building out a training wall for setting and grouting practice. Picked up some 48"x24" cheap tile for this exercise.

Clearly the tiles will fit tightly with little space to wiggle side to side to collapse the ridges. I know that the desired trowel direction is with the ridges perpendicular to the long side of the tile. I'm wondering if it's appropriate to trowel with the ridges parallel with the long side of the tile and wiggle up and down? Any and all recommendations for setting this tile are welcome.

On a tub, I wouldn't worry about completely collapsing the ridges fully. No matter what... it won't happen anyways. Just trowel and then wiggle up and down when setting. Backbutter tile to ensure good bond. And make sure wall is flat before you begin, and you will have a good installation. Also, use Laticrete TriLite or Customs Pro-Lite thinset.

Can't wait to see the progress pics on this one!
