Pebble Mosaic Seams

I came across an article yesterday and was wondering about this phenomena:

I am prepping for our glass pebble shower floor and want to avoid something like this. For our first shower, we used square mosaic, and I wish I had removed them from the mesh backing and placed them individually with spacers. Pebbles will be more challenging to place by hand and time consuming, but I think the overall result will be better and I've heard @Isaac Ostrom recommend this method in one of his videos.

So I am just curious: Has anyone experienced a similar situation with seams with just laying down pebbles with the mesh as shown? This is the first I've ever seen, but my experience is shallow.

Well I took everyone's advice and ended up with this:

The left side looks a little different because it has sunlight on it. There are no discernible seam lines. It was difficult to fit some of the pieces together, since they are of differing sizes, but I figured it out for the most part. We'll see how it looks when my DW grouts on Monday.

I did a plunge cut on the drain hole, as @Larry S suggested, which came out a lot better than the other shower drain I did. These are recycled glass pebbles, so they can't really be worked with an angle grinder like regular stone, but I'm pleased with the results.

It took me 3.5 hours from the time I mixed my mortar until I called it finished, so just under my 4 hour pot time. I tamped it down with a rubber float just to make sure I didn't miss any spots.

I have some mortar to clean up as you can see, but now I can tile the walls tomorrow.
