Filling it in?
Hello:
I have an area of wall next to the tub (located under the window that lines up with the tub) where the wall has to be padded out. How and what material can I use to fill in what is needed on to the durarock board to flatten out or even out the surface so when I go to tile it I am good to go? I will be adding a liquid waterproofing membrane to this surface as well as around the entire window once it is fixed. I am just not sure if I simply fill it in with thinset mortar or if I need something specific to accomplish this correctly. I don't want to worry that after several years it could crumble underneath the tiled job or cause tiles to crack. It needs to adhere in my mind. I thought that perhaps I should put up the diamond shaped metal mesh stuff (because the space is quite significant...3/4" to 1" along the entire space beneth and above the window) that I use for one of my other showers pans so it has something to grab onto...but then I thought that might be overkill and unnecessary. I have already done so much work taking down the membrane that was put up so badly it could not be left in place. If I had when I went to install the tiles they would have been all messed up and not lay flat. Anyways.... Thanks for your input as these are just some areas I am unsure of as I don't have much experiance fixing this kind of issue to prepare to be tiled.

Good job! 3701 Lite is garbage. Sorry you found that out the hardway. Just use thinset in the future if you need to screed out an area as long as its less than 1/2"
