General Tile Discussion

As I was considering a tile ready pan I noticed a potential problem. The manufacture supplies a Z shaped metal strip. It gets screw to the studs and makes its way over the 1/2" side of the pan then point down . how would thin set work with this? To me it loos like a failure point. Would Kerdi band work better to seal the board to the pan in this situation. Also it is a slab on grade home and that alone makes me lean towards a foam pan with a flo fx drain. I guess I understand more about that system. Or trash the idea and go with a pre sloped foam pan.

Any ideas would be appreciated .
