A fond farewell and heartfelt thanks to Isaac

It has come to the end of a long journey of my watching every Tile Coach You-Tube video on line and post here to answer the questions I have come up with on my demo and rebuild of my (last? ) bathroom. Before I leave, along with the before , during and after pictures that were taken are some thoughts I collected along the way.

Things I learned from Isaac:

-How to plumb and true probably the warpiest studs I've seen yet.

-The many uses of Great Stuff

-How to start the 2nd tile course in a shower and how to finish the first.

-Why sliver cuts stink and how to avoid them.

-Introduction to some great products. (asterixis in the next list)

-How videos are supposed to be made.

-A much bigger appreciation for a helper (and your camera person was always top-notch)

-Grouting is probably the most satisfying part of the whole project (yeah, I can't explain it, either).

Some nerdy info on the project:

  1. Tile for shower and tub surround - 6X10 subway

  2. Tile for floor - 12X24 hardened edge tiles

  3. *Shower pan - Revolution Shower systems custom size with membrane already instal

  4. *Curb- Revolution Shower Systems (RSS) 4"X5" curb cut to length.

  5. Shower walls - 3 cut down 4'X8' DenShield tile backer sheets

  6. *Premade inside and outside corners and banding supplied by RSS

  7. *Flow effects square drain with tileable center section

  8. Header wall built for side-to-side shower niche

  9. *Oatey freestanding tub floor drain

  10. Thinset for all tiled walls - Laticrete Multi-max Lite

  11. Thinset for floor tile - Mapei Ultra-flex LFT

  12. Grout Mapei Ultra-color Plus FA (unsure of what color it WAS, but it was the same throughout)

  13. All tile outside boundaries were Schluter profiles

  14. Tile backer for floor tile - 1/4" USG Fiberock above 1/8th in metal lathe covered in *Ardex K-15 floor leveler. NOTE: Ardex is a great product but expensive, though the best pouring /working ability I've ever used.

  15. Plumbing water supply valves and fixtures are all American Standard -(better quality than big box stores).

  16. Waterproofing membrane was Laticrete for the shower ( very much overkill, as it was credit card thickness) and left over Red Guard for tub surround.

  17. Shower door and new comfort height toilet are made by Kohler.

Broad strokes of project:

  • Demo of old fiberglass tub and shower

  • Demo of floor

  • Relocation of shower, tub and toilet drain piping

  • Building of header wall for niche

  • Plumbing for shower, tub and vanity supply (for vanity just better stubs)

  • repurposing of existing vanity with new top (Quartz) and better hinge and drawer slider hardware

  • Plumb, square and true wall studs for shower prior to tile back install

  • Tile shower

  • raise vanity height, reinstall.

  • Prep bathroom subfloor, and level

  • Add Floor tile backer and tile floor, Tile shower curb

  • Tile tub surround

  • Grout

  • Install baseboards/quarter-round

  • Install all fixtures
