Latapoxy 300

Marble tile floor on this shower. I went with the sealed method of Epoxy Thinset and Epoxy grout with 2 coats of sealer to try to discourage any water staining on the stone.

Latapoxy is NOT for the DIY guy.

Its is part A/B liquids which you must get all of it out of the bag and mix completely.

Then add powder and mix again. I withheld 20% of the powder to not have a too thick mess on my hands.

No water allowed except for cleanup.

Ended up adding about 90% powder overall.

This stuff trowels like marshmallow fluff. Kinda stretchy, many air pockets as the "mortar" is spreading.

Surface must be COMPLETELY dry or the epoxy just glides over it and wont stick.

It hold a notch pretty well. I used a 3/8" notch with a generous backbutter as well.

Directions on the bucket only show 1/4" notch trowel. I did speak to my Laticrete rep and he found that the MAXIMUM working bed is 3/8" for the epoxy. So a 1/2" notch would also be fine as well.

Coverage was minimal. 2 buckets for 40 sq ft at 3/8" notch. 200$ a bucket. It could get expensive quick.

Smears initially when cleaning. A small putty knife to remove thinset before the sponge would be helpful.

CLean , Clean, Clean! This hardens into globs to do not break down with water the next day. Mortar will come loose if it gets wt the next day. This epoxy was all razor scraped off and it was not easy.

It is not "white". It's got a tint. The marble is translucent.

I believe it has given the shower a darker hue to it since the base material is darker than the bright white Tri-Lite i used everwhere else. I've had to explain that twice now to both homeowners which is disappointing to me. The glass goes directly on the transition, so it will break up the effect. But not the point.

I would NOT use it again with a white stone. I will also avoid it as much as possible as its very expensive, difficult to use, hard to clean and tough to remove.

I have heard that Ardex X-5 thinset is best for avoiding darkening in white marbles. It is very porous, which allows for easier evaporation of water under the tile.
