waterproofing

Hello all,

Good afternoon I am trying to DIY my bathroom remodel and replace an old bath fitter tub with a tiled shower, I have a 61” x 32” floor base. I laser leveled the concrete base and the floor is out by a 1/4 inch. My shower base is a solid stone slab from Fiora/ AD Waters located in Quebec Canada.

Question #1: Can I waterproof the shower pan with membrane and then use excessive thinset to accomadate for the unlevel floor? I would prefer to not have to float the shower base if it’s not absolutely needed. i’m hoping I could just add a 1/4” of extra mortar on one side of the shower base that is 1/4 under measurement.

Also My back wall of my shower has very few studs behind it. The drywall is solid but it is mounted to concrete and i can’t take the wall down because there is asbestos behind the drywall.

Question #2:

I have nothing to mount backing board to on the back wall. so can I primer the back wall, then put Flow FX membrane on the primered wall so it sticks well. and then lay my tiles to that flow FX membrane glued to the wall?

Question #3:

Last issue is I have noticed my back wall is quite solid but it is not 100% square. The good news is the back wall is protruding out at the bottom corner only about 1/4 of an inch. i really would like to make this work without adding anything to the back wall since my premolded stone base is the exact width, maybe 1/4” thinner than the width of the shower base. so adding any “kurdi board” for example will deduct any space available for the stone slab to sit. Please help as I need to finish it as urgently as possible and I’m already behind on this project.

question 3. a)

if adding something to the back wall to make it all level is absolutely necessary. I know i’m asking a lot but is it possible to add anything to the back wall wherever needed, and then notch out a 3” gap (approximate height of my stone shower base) along the bottom edge of the shower back wall. so the premolded base can still fit within the shower base width of exactly 32” ?

PS: ISAAC OSTROM, I’m a big fan of your work man lots of info on this site as well as your chanel. thanks again!

Please advise any tips you have. i really need to get this shower finished i appreciate any advice you may have!
