Shower Waterproofing

Building New Shower

I am ready to replace a tub with a new shower (36x60"). I thought I had it all figured out regarding which product to use, but now I have doubts about the waterproof claims of various manufacturers. I'm on a concrete slab and have no issues with moving a drain if need be. I'm an electrical contractor and a handy guy. I am confident working with mud as I have worked with concrete and stucco. Below are my options, and I am willing to alter them as needed.

  1. RSS pro series pan and wallboard. I can get my wall square and plumb with wet or regular shims. I'm sketched out by only sealant where the pan meets the walls—I wanted to know your thoughts. Is it bulletproof?

  2. RSS HD series pan and walls. I picked this because I could use sheet membrane in the corners, thinking it's better for waterproofing and crack prevention.

  3. Laticrete Pan and wall board with their Linear Drain. I think Schluter is out with the issues they have had.

  4. Laticrete wall board and Schluter linear drain with deck mud. I would be building it how Sal builds his showers.

I have no problem switching out to deck mud for the pan on any of the above. Also feel free to add extra steps to the above (liquid Hydro Ban) or scratch all of them and tell me what you think is the most bulletproof.

Thanks in advance for spending the time to read and or respond. Thanks for the passion of the job and caring enough to help others.

I like the idea. I think band is the way to go. So what you are saying is that you would be okay with the sealant only on the wall?
